About Us
AmeriCorps in Action
Reading Corps, Math Corps and Early Learning Corps are evidence-based AmeriCorps programs. We partner with schools across the country to provide tutors and extra help for students.
Our goal is to ensure every student is reading proficiently by 3rd grade and ready for algebra by the end of 8th grade.
Students who are strong readers by the end of 3rd grade are more likely to be successful learners. Our tutors help ensure kids have the skills they’ll need to thrive.
AGES SERVED Kindergarten - 3rd grade
Students who master foundational math skills are prepared for greater challenges in high school, college and the workplace. By combining the people power of AmeriCorps with cutting-edge math research, Math Corps helps make sure every student has a chance to succeed.

K-3 Math
Elementary math skills are linked to high school achievement. K-3 tutors help students build their foundational skills and math confidence.
Infant and Toddler Initiative
A child’s first 1,000 days of life are essential for brain development. As part of the Infant and Toddler Initiative, AmeriCorps members serve at Early Head Start or childcare sites to enhance daily activities, support caregivers and help our youngest learners build important skills.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is AmeriCorps?
AmeriCorps, often called the “domestic Peace Corps,” is an opportunity to make a big difference in your life and in the lives of those around you. It’s a chance to apply your skills and ideals toward helping others and meeting critical needs in the community.
Each year, AmeriCorps provides opportunities for 75,000 Americans to give back to their communities and country through dedicated national service. Since its creation in 1994, more than one million Americans have served their communities through the AmeriCorps program.
Who can become a tutor?
Great tutors come from all walks of life. Whether you’re 18 or 85+, your most important qualification is a desire to help children succeed! That said, it’s important that you meet the following minimum qualifications by the beginning of your service:
We believe everyone has something to give back and that our communities are stronger when everyone is welcome to contribute. Reading Corps and Math Corps will not discriminate for or against any service member or applicant on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, familial status, disability, sexual orientation, or age.
Where are tutors needed?
You can search for opportunities near you using the search bar at the top of this page. The need is great and we’re continuing to grow, so if there isn’t something near you today, be sure to check back soon.
If I’ve served in another AmeriCorps program, am I eligible?
Yes! Federal regulations currently allow individuals to serve a total of four terms with an AmeriCorps state or national program. If you have already served four terms, you aren’t eligible to serve with Reading Corps/Math Corps at this time, but could choose to serve with a Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) or National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) program.
